About Farmer Sharp Andrew Sharp has been involved in farming and the meat trade most of his life. He is an alleged world renowned expert in agriculture farming and food. Andrew is Passionate about food and farming, food security, food miles and carbon foot print (however ewe calculate that) amongst many other things. Linked with his considerable experience of being a world renowned master butcher and food campaigner, Andrew has for several years been an advisor to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on his much vaunted Mutton Renaissance Campaign. An endorsement of Andrew’s expertise in Mutton! These are just the kind of issues that occupy the mind of Andrew Sharp. He would jokingly say that the issues are all that occupy his mind, as it is a small mind. But I am not sure about that, as these are massive, complex issues.
Unlike most people it has been an overriding life’s obsession to understand the whole of the food chain from spam to the best air dried ham. To do this ewe need an insight into artisan production, right down to factory farming. Whether it is pepper or pigs, cattle or sheep, Andrew has gained an insight into most aspects of this knowledge. There is no man alive that knows it all but there are a few that ‘know a bit’. Andrew’s family history goes back over many generations into the origins of farming and butchery of sunny Cumbria, where it only rains occasionally, or so he says. An absolute instinctive knowledge of the quality products of Cumbria followed by an almost messianic zeal to look under the rug, and reveal the less well known aspects and sometimes blatantly hidden bits of our food.
